I came across the thought about the parable of the talents and come to an understanding I’ll like to share. Coming up we were taught the parable in comparison to the gifts of God and in present time I know the translation was actually about currency. Similar to denari, birr, pesos and the dollar, the talents were told in comparison as the currency at that time. We know the parables are concerning the wisdom of God about things to come and enlightenment of things revealed. I began to wonder what was Jesus truly comparing the talents to. The men were given 5, 2 and 1 talent and out of all three one dug a hole and hid it. Back to coming up with the gifts of God being referenced we thought it meant someone not using their gifts. I’m starting to understand (not chiseling it in stone) the talents could be portions of God’s Revelation of His Truth. Paul says that everyone is given a portion of faith so could it be the same in this situation?

It’s a two way streak. On one hand, the comparison to currency is true and the same as it being portions of God’s revelation of His Truth. Both have value. The lack to use the talent could be one not using their God-given gifts to share the portion of His Truth to others. In doing so we increase the body of Christ as the men in the parable received double for doing trade with their portions. The frustration can come trying to understand what our gifts are and how to use those gifts to share the Truths of God. Hiding our portion could be procrastination, doubt, disobedience or lack of knowledge. It’s stated that God wouldn’t give us more than we can bear and I come to accept that its not about trials only but gifts and provision. All we can do is pray and ask God to help us see how the gifts He gave us can be used to share the Truth He has revealed to us.

Take some time and examine your gifts and what has been the pillar of your faith and ask how you can help others on the construction of their faith. The value of the talent is that it’s God’s Truth and its seen when it’s shared and multiplied by others. You Are Loved, Indeed!!!
